WHAT PARKERS SAY ABOUT THE MERCEDES CLK500SUMMARYCLK has gone down the 'looking good' rather than 'feeling sporty' coupé route. Its sleeker shape and big pillarless doors lend it a more sophisticated air than a Mercedes saloon. It's a competent driver and the more powerful variants can call upon considerable straightline performance. But it feels more at home cruising to boutiques and beauty parlours or commanding respect in the office car park than chasing down twisty roads. PERFORMANCE Entry-level engine badged 200 Kompressor is a supercharged 1.8-litre. Feels livelier than the 2.6-litre CLK 240. CLK 320 offers smooth performance, while V8s in CLK 500 and CLK55 AMG are brisk and refined. HANDLING A great long-distance cruiser, but not as nimble as a BMW 3-Series coupe. This won't put many people off. Rear-wheel drive handling characteristics allow for precise steering with good feedback, but if you're in the higher power models watch out for that back end on wet roads - it can easily break away without much provocation. Luckily an electronic stability programme is standard. Ride comfort is excellent. COMFORT Passable as a full-time four seater with decent rear legroom and enough headroom for most passengers. Does a good job of cocooning occupants from the outside world. No stretching behind for seatbelts with the risk of pulling a muscle here - after closing the door, front seat occupants are handed their seatbelts as an electric arm extends from behind your shoulder. PRACTICALITY A decent sized boot and reasonable storage in the cabin makes the CLK a relatively practical four-seat coupe. Access to the rear is good. BEHIND THE WHEEL Subtle curves and traditional style instruments with modern white LED distinguish the interior of the CLK - the analogue clock is the same size as the rev counter, perhaps hinting that ringing every last rpm from the engine will not be a priority for the owner. Materials feel reassuring in quality compared with a few earlier models from Mercedes-Benz. Visibility is good with the inevitable compromise of the tapering roof-line increasing blindspots to the rear. SAFETY As with all Mercedes-Benz cars there are no deadlocks, but that's a sign of how highly they rate safety. Six airbags as standard (front, side and head airbags for both front seat occupants) and an electronic stability programme is fitted to all models. ABOUT OV52 EUAA CLK Mercedes is all about style, comfort and power - and this CLK500 has all these qualities and more. OV52 EUA is a CLK 500 Avantgarde which means under the bonnet sits a 5.0 litre V8 producing 306bhp and 460NM Torque. The V8 versatility is simply superb, this car will happily potter around at 30mph with the revs barely reading on the dial then exactly when you want and need it you can unleash a tidal wave of power with a simple dab of the right foot. When
you want 0-60 mph can be dispatched in just 5.8 seconds whilst the
top speed is electronically limited to 155mph. Put simply this car
will just about fly - but then there is a great deal more to it than
just sheer power and to be honest this isn't the kind of car you take
to the traffic light grand prix even though you could win it hands
down every time.
Despite the superb engine this car is as much if not more about comfort and quality. Inside the cabin the car is a place of tranquillity and luxury. The specification list includes most everything you could want or need including full leather interior, front electric memory seats, heated front seats (option), a Radio/Cassette with CD Changer in the glove box, 'luxury' twin zone climate control, an electric sunroof (option), electrically adjusting steering column, a multifunction trip computer, cruise control, electric folding mirrors, and much more. Outside the 17" AMG alloys (factory option) give the car a purposeful look to match its performance. As you would expect of a car costing nearly £50,000 when new the quality is impeccable. Perhaps the most important feature of OV52 EUA is that is has covered just 11,100 miles from new in the careful custody of ONE OWNER (The log book shows two but it is the same person and a mistake by the DVLA who recorded a change of address as a change of keeper). This car has been fastidiously maintained - it comes with all documentation and keys and is frankly immaculate. As you would hope it also has a FULL MERCEDES BENZ service history and MOT (expires 2nd December 2008), for your further peace of mind it has also been RAC Inspected and comes with a 6 Month PLATINUM RAC WARRANTY. Condition wise the car is about as close to new as you will find the exterior, interior and wheels are immaculate. When you consider that in November 2002 the basic price of this car was £44,722 not including the factory options, with just a 11,100 miles on it this car is a bargain.
