WHAT PARKERS SAY ABOUT THE 5 series
SUMMARY
Understated elegance, great engines,
driving pleasure.
ABOUT YG03 ULM
This particular BMW 5 series
is a 520i ES SE automatic saloon first registered in June 2003.
This car has covered a lovely low mileage which is guaranteed as
genuine and supported by full service records. Owned by an estate
agent for the last 4 years the car has only covered a tiny annual
mileage in this time and acquired by us following the estate agent
part exchanging the car for another BMW. The 520i is fitted with
2.2 6 cylinder engine which is the smallest 6 cylinder engine BMW
offered in the 5 series and it is a cracking engine. The BMW 6 cylinder
engines really are silky smooth with superb balance and composure
and a great deal more refined than a 4 cylinder engine. However
the beauty of the 520i is that while you have the silky refinement
and super engine note which comes from a 6 cylinder engine the running
costs and consumption are nothing like would be on one of the larger
6 or 8 cylinder engines from the 5 series range. The excellent 5
speed automatic gearbox fitted to this car has a tiptronic and Sport
feature and works brilliantly with this engine. Progress is smooth
and refined and yet there is adequate power to get you on the move
quickly when required which also gives you the chance to listen
to the wonderful engine note that these 6 cylinder engines produce
when you put your foot down. With 170bhp available there is more
than adequate power available at any speed and with a 0-60 time
of less than 10 seconds and a top speed of almost 140mph this car
provides harmony between performance and running costs. For many
people 5 series vehicles are not only the ultimate driving machine
but also the pinnacle of social or business automotive transport.
We have to admit that driving a 5 series really is an enjoyable
experience and thanks to the low mileage and comprehensive BMW history
this example drives superbly. The balance between comfort and handling
is achieved perfectly in the 5 series and there is something just
so right about the rear wheels driving the car while the front wheels
steer the car. This example was one of the last of this shape of
5 series before the introduction of, in our opinion, the less attractive
2004 onwards 5 series. In this colour and with these alloy wheels
this is a great looking executive saloon. The ES SE specification
was a limited edition derivative of the 5 series range and only
produced for around one year. The specification is comprehensive
with all the essentials and a few bits more too. The 6CD changer
is nice and we find the front and rear parking assistance extremely
useful and practical when you are parking this car. Some of the
M Sport finishes around the car add to the appearance and desirability
considerably. The M Sport steering wheel is lovely in your hands
and controls audio and cruise control functions. Black Sapphire
is the best colour for one of these without a doubt and provides
a good contrast to the grey velour interior fitted to this vehicle.
Because these drive so well there are not too many around with under
50k miles and even fewer where the car has been receiving maintenance
from BMW main dealers. Indeed the last service in December 2009
was the large Inspection 2 service with brake fluid change so the
previous owner has not sacrificed servicing expense as a result
of their extremely low annual mileage.
Currently the on board indicator shows all green lights which means
the new owner will not need to worry about servicing for some considerable
time. Whether you intend to use this car for business or pleasure
you will not find a better driving experience around and this car
is practical too with a good sized boot and decent accommodation
for rear seat passengers. A host of active and passive safety features
mean the 5 series makes for a safe as well as an enjoyable driving
experience. This is an impressive car and the quality and driving
experience are unsurpassed - this feels a very solid, tight and
well built motor vehicle.
Not too many 5 series of this age will have covered so few miles
and come with such a lovely BMW service history. Not many 5 series
will look as nice this one with the 17" M Sport alloy wheels
and Black Sapphire paintwork. This is an impressive executive saloon.
Condition wise YG03 ULM is very
good.

CONDITION SUMMARY
Interior - The interior of
this car is in very good condition with really only odd minor marks that
you would expect on any used vehicle click on the red cross on the diagram
below to view some marks to the driver's door - these are minor and the
upholstery is in beautiful condition. The interior has had little use
which is evident from the condition inside this car. New BMW overmats
fitted by ourselves and there is a Sony Ericsson phone cradle in the interior
which we have not tested.
Exterior - The exterior of this
car isgood. As you would reasonably expect, given the vehicles age, there
are some minor cosmetic imperfections however these are all pretty minor
for a 7 year old car. Obviously there is the odd chip to the front panels,
click on the red cross on the diagram below to view, there is a mark to
the n/s/r quarter panel which can be viewed by clicking on the red cross
on the diagram below along with a graze to the front and rear bumpers
again click on the red crosses below to see images of these imperfections.
Overall the car is in very good condition and it is a really good looking
motor car as you will see from the photographs. We are happy to dicuss
the additional cost of rectifying any of these imperfections if the new
owner would like us to do so.
Mechanical - Drives very well
having a silky smooth engine and gearbox. Everything feels well put together,
tight and solid. Recently had large Inspection 2 service at BMW,
MOT to June 2011, good tread Avon tyres fitted all round which show the
previous owner went with quality over price when it came to looking after
the car. Ready to go with tax to the end of December 2010.
